Description of Services: Provides supports and services to help families improve maternal and infant nutritional health by focusing on maternal nourishment, nutrition and breastfeeding
Focuses on the following three areas:
Maternal Nourishment that may include:
  • Baby food making and nutritional cooking sessions
  • Healthy snacks and meal information
  • Milk and food vouchers as well as vitamin supplements
Nutrition Screening, Education and Counselling includes:
  • Education on prenatal nutrition
  • Understanding food labels
  • Presentations by dietitians and health specialists
  • Nutrition screening by Community Health Representative
  • Individual counselling by nutritionists
  • Lifestyle counseling for expectant parents
Breastfeeding Program includes:
  • Promotion of breastfeeding initiation and duration
  • Support groups
  • Breastfeeding videos and resource materials
  • Equipment lending for parents of newborns
Also coordinates:
  • Family and cultural events
  • Parent resource library

Eligibility - Population(s) Served:
  • Focus is for Indigenous women who are pregnant, new mothers or with infants under 12 months of age but open to anyone in need of services

  • Vitamin supplements, milk and food vouchers are only available to women enrolled in the program
