  • Maintains the Marathon Recreation Complex
  • Offers a variety of children's programming and recreational activities
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining several municipal recreation facilities, including:
    • Del Earle Park
    • Dyer's Baseball Park
    • Lakeview Community Hall
    • Marathon Arena
    • Marathon Tennis Courts
    • Pebble Beach Park
    • Peninsula Golf Course
    • Penn Lake Park
    • Port Hole Pool
    • Seniors' Sports Park
    • Superior Slopes Ski Hill
    • Youth Sports Park
    The department is also responsible for the following:
    • Summer, fall, winter, and spring programming including public swimming, Red Cross swimming lessons, public skating, drop-in hockey
    • Assisting groups and organizations with their leisure activity interests and initiatives
    • Preparing long-term strategies including the identification of community leisure activity needs
    • Actively promoting all recreation programs to ensure maximum participation and cost effectiveness
    • Coordinating annual special events such as the Christmas Parade and Volunteer Service Awards
    • Providing assistance to groups seeking financial or other assistance
